Many thanks again for a great walking tour. The highlight
of the afternoon was
getting to meet and talk with Cara Black in such an intimate
setting. It was fascinating
to hear about how she researches her novels in Paris, and
how she goes about
the process of writing her mysteries. We really appreciated
how organized you were,
and how much fun it was to be a tourist in our home town.
- J V S, Healdsburg

I loved the book-signing lunch! It was a treat to meet
Cara, and have her sign my book.
The All Things French Walk was also lots of fun. - C.C.,
San Francisco
My four friends and I had a marvelous time last Saturday
(at Cara Black's
book-signing), and I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful
day.
The luncheon was in such a lovely venue . . . and the
food was excellent.
We all thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the meal.
And Carla Black was fantastic!
What a wonderful speaker she is, and the discussion of her
books from such
a personal perspective was truly delightful. The book
luncheon was better
than any of us could have imagined, and we all had a great
time.
The walking tour that followed was so much more than we expected.
All the places we visited were wonderful, and the food and
wine samples
were fabulous. We all felt beyond fulfilled when the
day was over . . .
Thank you very much for everything you did to make this tour
so much fun
and a complete and total success. . . . I hope it is as rewarding
for you
as it is for all of us who enjoy your tours! - N.H.,

Adah
Bakalinsky
STAIRWAY WALKS OF SAN FRANCISCO
(Wilderness Press)
–A guide book classic, first published
in 1984–
The vivacious grande dame of San Francisco's 350+ stairway
walks, Adah Bakalinsky, is a “walker nonpareil
and veteran guide,” who wrote The Stairway Walks of
San Francisco
for the curious walker. Chock-full of maps, anecdotal history,
geological & horticultural notes of interest, the book
is a fascinating
read and a great resource, sure to find a favorite place on
your bookshelf . . . or in your hip pocket!
–
Darla Meeker, Healdsburg Walking Tours, LLC–
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom proclaimed
May 22, 2004, as
“Adah Bakalinsky's Stairway Day
in San Francisco," for her tireless
contributions to ‘raising money and citizen awareness’
for restoring
and preserving San Francisco's stairways.”
There are 630 public stairways listed
in the 6th edition
of Adah Bakalinsky's Stairway of San Francisco book,
compared to the 330 listed in previous editions.
Concludes with a convivial All Things Hidden Healdsburg
Walk.

Thank you for the wonderful journey
with Adah on Saturday. Meeting
in the arbor . . . walking to Manzanita to feast on good food
with a great
group of book lovers ~ plus taking the “stairway”
to the gallery
and exploring the historic house on Fitch. - T C, Sonoma
County
My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed Adah
Bakalinsky's
book-signing luncheon
tour. -
Santa Rosa, California
Thank you very much for the terrific Saturday walk in Healdsburg
and for the delicious lunch. I had the most enjoyable
time with
everyone in the group. The Healdsburg I saw this time is a
change
from that seen many years ago. Your tour gave us an
insight into these
changes and why one would definitely want to visit again.
Seeing the
old and new and learning the town's history is the intersting
part for me.
I soak it up. And having a taste of local treats gave
a delightful
ending to the walk. - M.G. San Francisco

Dylan Schaffer
LIFE, DEATH & BIALYS*: A Father/Son Baking Story
(Bloomsbury USA)
– Author of the award-winning Misdemeanor
Man 2-book series –
Defense Attorney Dylan Schaffer's
fascinating, complex memoir of a
long-overdue father and son reunion is set, in part, against
the backdrop
of New York's French Culinary Institute, where their week-long,
humor-
laced bread-baking classes are coupled with bitter/sweet
revelations
and discoveries that eventually lead to a mutual appreciation
of the
intricate familial bonds that cannot be denied; and, which ultimately
transcend the sum total of the years spent apart. Their long
walks
through his father's old New York neighborhood, in search of
the bialys
his father so enjoyed as a kid, add a unique flavor to this
memorable, must-read book.
–
Darla Meeker, Healdsburg Walking Tours, LLC–
*A favorite of Tony Soprano,
bialys are small, chewy rolls similar to a bagel,
but they are baked, not boiled. The center of the bialys
is slightly indented, and filled with such traditional
ingredients as garlic, poppy seed or bread crumbs.
New York City is the “Bialys Capitol” of America.

I really enjoyed Dylan Schaffer's book-talk. He was so engaging.
He made his memoir come alive, with wit, warmth, and insight.
I
hope that you will offer more of these literary lunches in the
future.
– C. R. , Healdsburg
I bought all three of Dylan's books at the luncheon. I am currently
reading the first book in the Misdemeanor Man series. I'm enjoying
the
humor in it, but I also am delighted to discover that he is
quite
the wordsmith, which forces me to consult my dictionary from
time to time, which makes for an even better read.
– B. B., Sonoma County
The book-signing lunch was delightful. I am e-mailing a friend
to
make sure she buys the book because I know she wiill love it!-
A.W., Healdsburg
What a fantastic presentation. I hope you have many more
of
these in the future. - C.A., Healdsburg

& Wine Sampler Walk.

What a delightful lunch and great talk. Jeff Cox was most
impressive in his

I can't thank you enough. Both of us really enjoyed
the lunch/walk.Jeff Cox
was fascinating, and the lunch was outstanding!

The Organic Cook's Bible isn't a book, it's an
encyclopedia of interesting facts

I've already read it from cover to cover.
